Student Research Award Application

Student researchers use this form to submit a Student Research Award Proposal.  Proposals are due annually by October 25. The maximum award is $500 per proposal and funding is dependent upon proposal merit and available funds. A letter of support from your research advisor/mentor is required and should be submitted by the Research Advisor using the Student Research Award Advisor Support Form.

Criteria for Research Awards [Evaluation Rubric]

  • Experimental Design: Clarity of goals, hypothesis and/or research question
  • Quality of Writing: Well written, proofread, example of good scientific writing
  • Literature cited: Representative of field of research and properly and completely cited
  • Length, Budget, Timeline: Feasibility of completion based on methodology and timeline proposed
  • Strength of letter of support from research mentor
Please completely and properly format your references that you have cited in the body of your proposal. Use the format typically used in your field of research (for example Chicago Manual of Style).
Please include a detailed budget with: Item, purpose of use in the project, and price

If you would like, attach a Microsoft Word, or PDF version of your research proposal. If you have figures or images, a file submission is recommended. Please use the section names and order of sections as listed on the form.
In this section, please list any relevant concerns with regards safety on your project and how these will be addressed. If the work generates hazardous waste which may negatively impact the environment, describe how will this be disposed of. If live subjects are involved, please list any relevant IRB or related paperwork required or already obtained and any other relevant information.
